45 Minute Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Step 2
Place cabbage leaves in a large microwavable bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of water and cover loosely with plastic wrap.
Step 3
Microwave on HIGH for 4 to 5 minutes, or until leaves are softened but not fully cooked. Set aside.
Step 4
In a large bowl beat egg with remaining water. Add beef, rice, onions, garlic, salt and pepper. Do not overmix or stuffing will become firm after cooking.
Step 5
Spoon 1/2 cup of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides and end of the leaf over the filling and roll up tightly.
Step 6
Transfer each roll, seam-side down, to a 11×7-inch baking dish. Top with pasta sauce. Cover with foil.
Step 7
Bake for 45 minutes, or until meat is cooked through and cabbage is tender. Let stand, covered, for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley.

Cabbage Preparation
This recipe is a perfect starting point if you’re new to using cabbage.
Put the cabbage on a cutting board stem side up.
Poke a fork firmly into the centre of the core so you can safely hold the cabbage into place while you cut out the core.
Use a good sharp knife and cut in a circular pattern with the knife point tilted in toward the stem a bit and the handle tilted outward so when you cut out the core.
Try pulling the core out with the fork.
Discard the stem and core.
